KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 15): Datuk Wira Justin Lim Hwa Tat, who is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), has resigned from the board of SMTrack Bhd as its non-independent non-executive director, with immediate effect.
His resignation was due to other work commitments, the radio frequency identification solution provider’s filing showed on Tuesday (Aug 15). Appointed as SMTracks' executive director in January last year, he was then redesignated to the non-executive post on July 24.
He also sits on the board of several publicly listed companies, including chemical manufacturer Sersol Bhd as its chief executive officer.
Justin has been in the spotlight since early July after the MACC sought the public's help to locate him to assist in an investigation over his instructions and approval of five payments totalling RM2.5 million to a private company named HGC Legacy Enterprise.
On July 26, Sersol received an extraordinary meeting requisition from Hillcove Sdn Bhd — which holds more than 10% stake in the group — to remove the chairman Datuk Lim Tiong Siang (Justin’s father) as well as two directors, namely Shazreen Mohd Hatta and Sia Meng Chan.
Hillcove wanted to elect three new directors to the board, namely Datuk Mohamed Suffian Awang — the former political secretary to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak — and Alan Ling Sie Kiong as well as Tan Tong Lang.
The EGM is scheduled to be convened on Aug 25.
Shares of SMTrack finished flat at three sen on Tuesday (Aug 15), valuing the group at RM30.07 million.
