SHAH ALAM (Aug 13): Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and deputy PM Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi to step down from their positions and to accept moral responsibility as the people had rejected Perikatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN)’s shaky cooperation.

PN’s showing in the just concluded state elections is a testament that they have the mandate of the “Malay voters”, said Muhyiddin.

“Our win in Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan is proof that Malay voters are backing us. PN also won some mixed seats which shows we are getting the support of non-Malays as well.

“It has proven that these state assembly elections are a referendum against the unity government.

“So, Anwar and his deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, have to step down immediately,” he said at a press conference held at the Concorde Hotel.

He made a pointed remark, highlighting that out of the 108 seats contested by BN, only 19 were won, resulting in a significant loss of 82% of seats in the state elections, and consequently the trust of the Malay-majority voters.

“PN won 146 out of 245 seats that it contested, this shows that the Malays have embraced PN as their political platform, instead of Umno,” Muhyiddin told reporters gathered at the hotel.

“PN has also managed to win in mixed seats in Kulim and small Malay majority seat Derga, showing that non-Malays have also accepted PN as their political platform.

“PN has also managed to deny PH-BN a two-thirds majority in Selangor, a state which was regarded as the coalition's stronghold previously,” he said.
