KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Perikatan Nasional (PN) achieved a resounding victory in Kelantan in state elections on Saturday (Aug 12) with an almost clean sweep of the 45 seats in the state legislative assembly.

Led by PAS, the coalition easily retained power in the state after winning 43 seats. The remaining two seats were won by the Barisan Nasional-Pakatan Harapan (BN-PH) alliance.

PAS secured 37 out of the 39 seats it contested, while its coalition partner Bersatu won all six seats in which it fielded candidates, according to the Election Commission.

The two seats that PN lost were Kota Lama and Galas.

In the PAS stronghold of Kota Lama, Datuk Zamri Ismail (PN-PAS) lost by a small margin of 202 votes to Hafidzah Mustakim (PH-Amanah).

Meanwhile, Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim (BN-Umno) retained the Galas seat with a higher majority of 3,337 votes, compared with the 1,738 majority he garnered in 2018.
