KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): The median income of six states — Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, Labuan, Johor and Penang — has surpassed the national median level of RM6,338 in 2022, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
Of the six, Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest median income of RM10,234 last year, followed by Putrajaya with RM10,056, then Selangor (RM9,983), Labuan (RM6,904), Johor (RM6,879) and Penang (RM6,502), according to the department’s statement on the findings of its Household Expenditure Survey on Friday (July 28).
Kuala Lumpur's monthly gross median household income, however, retreated by 1% from 2019 to 2022, while Selangor saw the highest median income growth of 6.5% in the same period.
As for monthly mean gross household income, four states — Putrajaya (RM13,473), Kuala Lumpur (RM13,325), Selangor (RM12,233) and Johor (RM8,517) — recorded levels that exceeded the national mean gross household income of RM8,479 in 2022.
"Selangor also recorded the highest annual growth rate with mean income of 4.1% from RM10,827 (2019) to RM12,233 (2022), while Labuan recorded a decline in mean of monthly gross household income with a reduction of 0.3% from RM8,319 (2019) to RM8,250 (2022)," the statement read.
