KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Datasonic Group Bhd has named Tengku Datuk Abu Bakar Ahmad Tengku Abdullah as its executive chairman, effective Wednesday (July 26).

Tengku Abu Bakar, 38, was appointed to replace Datuk Abu Hanifah Noordin, 71, who has been redesignated as the group’s executive deputy chairman, the ICT solutions group's filing showed.

Abu Hanafiah holds 225.2 million direct shares or 7.93% direct stake in Datasonic, and 6.11 million or 0.22% indirect stake in the company.

Meanwhile, Tengku Abu Bakar, who is the son-in-law of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, also sits on the boards of two other listed companies, namely Central Global Bhd (non-executive director) and Wellspire Holdings Bhd (non-executive chairman).

He is also an executive director of Bookdoc Holdings Bhd, which has been operating a mobile application connecting patients with medical professionals since March 2019.  

Also joining Datasonic as an independent and non-executive director is Ahmad Ridwan Abdullah, 35, who is experienced in venture building, launching and scaling sustainable startups.

Datasonic shares closed up half a sen or 1.12% to 45 sen on Wednesday, valuing the group at RM1.33 billion.
