KUALA LUMPUR (July 18): PAS has urged its members and supporters to remain calm and respect the legal process, following the arrest of caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Sanusi Md Nor.
“PAS has followed the case involving Kedah (caretaker MB) Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi, who was reported to have been arrested by the police to be brought to court this morning,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (July 18).
“PAS urges all parties, including PAS members and supporters, to remain calm and respect the legal process.”
Chief of Police (Ketua Polis Negara) Razarudin Husain confirmed the arrest by the police from USJT and D7, JSJ Bukit Aman.
Sanusi was taken to the Gombak district police headquarters (Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Gombak) to be investigated under Section 4 (1)(A) of the Sedition Act 1948 (Akta Hasutan).
On Monday (July 17), The Edge had reported that Sanusi is expected to be charged at the Selayang Sessions Court on July 18 over his recent remarks that allegedly insulted the Sultan of Selangor.
According to the court's case list, the PAS leader is scheduled to be charged in separate courts before judges Nor Rajiah Mat Zin and Osman Affendi Mohd Shalleh.
Prior to this, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razaruddin Hussain said that the police probe into Sanusi on the 3R (race, religion and royalty) issue was nearing completion and the investigation papers would be handed over to the Attorney General’s Chambers.
Sanusi, who is also Perikatan Nasional’s election director, was investigated under the Sedition Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code for purported intentional insult to provoke the breach of peace.
