KUALA LUMPUR (June 19): Integrated engineering solutions provider Destini Bhd announced that former Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan @ Harun has been redesignated from independent director to independent non-executive chairman effective immediately.

Based on a filing on Monday (June 19), Azhar, 61, replaces Abdul Rahman Mohd Rejab who resigned due to personal commitments on June 16, 2023.

Previously in 2015, Azhar stepped down from his position as non-independent non-executive chairman of Destini due to other work and personal commitments, before being reappointed to independent director earlier this May.

From 2020 to 2022, Azhar Harun was the Dewan Rakyat speaker and retired after Tan Sri Johari Abdul was appointed as the new Dewan Rakyat speaker for the current parliamentary term.

Meanwhile, from 2018 to 2020, Azhar was the chairman of the Election Commission.

Azhar was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and currently concentrates his practice on litigation matters involving shareholders’ rights and remedies, corporate liquidation and receivership; corporate debts restructuring and building and construction claims.

He is currently practising law in Messrs Azhar & Goh.

Earlier this March, Azhar was also appointed as an independent non-executive director of property development Country View Bhd.

In a separate filing on the same day, Destini announced two other boardroom changes; independent non-executive director Dr Nurwahida Mohd Yaakub had resigned from her role on June 16 due to personal commitments while Datuk Bahudin Mansour has been appointed independent non-executive director to replace Nurwahida Yaakub, effective June 19.

The group shared that Bahudin possesses 42 years of experience and has held various senior management positions in audit, taxation, finance and administration.

Bahudin is also the sole proprietor of Bahudin & Associates.

As such, Bahudin Mansour has also been appointed as the chairman of both the audit committee and the nomination and remuneration committee, as well as a member of the risk committee.

Shares of Destini closed one sen, or 8.7%, lower at 10.5 sen, valuing the group at RM174.7 million.
