KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Supermax Corp Bhd has named Tan Poh Chan as its new independent and non-executive director.
Her appointment will take effect on July 1, the glove maker’s bourse filing showed on Friday (June 16).
“Tan held directorship in over 50 active subsidiaries of the Sunway Group. She retired from Sunway Group in February 2022. She gained more than 35 years of corporate management experience in audit, financial reporting, taxation, risk management, treasury, investor relations and corporate finance,” said Supermax.
In April, the group announced the resignation of Sharon Sung Fong Fui as its independent non-executive director, due to the latter’s personal commitments and rising workload in another public-listed company.
Following Sung's departure, Supermax said it will review and reshuffle its boardroom to align with Supermax’s global strategy and forward direction.
The announcement of Sung's departure took place a week after Cecile Jaclyn Thai, the eldest daughter of executive chairman Datuk Seri Stanley Thai, resigned from Supermax’s board as non-executive director.
Cecile resigned over disagreements with Supermax's board. She also claimed she was 'bullied and silenced' by other board members during her tenure, including her father, while trying to uphold her fiduciary duties. Supermax has refuted her claims.
On Friday, Supermax’s share price finished down half a sen or 0.54% at 91.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM2.48 billion.
