KUALA LUMPUR (June 6): Icon Offshore Bhd has appointed Datuk Abdul Mutalib Alias as the oil and gas service provider’s non-independent non-executive chairman, effective Tuesday (June 6) after Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Tun Uda retired from the post on the same day.
Icon Offshore said Abdul Mutalib previously served as non-independent, non-executive chairman of Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd. He had also served on the board of Bank Rakyat, and currently sits on the board of Ekuiti Nasional Bhd as an independent and non-executive director.
“Abdul Mutalib started his career in investment and commercial banking and he was the vice-president, Investment Banking in Chase Manhattan Bank from 1994 to 2000,” Icon said in a bourse filing.
“He then moved into the public sector and served various ministries including the Ministry of Works, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs from 2000 to 2011, before being appointed as chief executive officer of Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA)."
Last week, Raja Arshad began his tenure as group chairman of one of the country’s largest fund management companies, Permodalan Nasional Bhd.
At the noon break, Icon Offshore shares were half a sen or 5.88% lower at eight sen, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM204.49 million.
