KUALA LUMPUR (May 26): Malaysia’s new low-cost carrier MYAirline has formed a joint venture (JV) with Menzies Aviation to provide ground-handling services in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). 

Menzies, which has operations at more than 250 airports in 60 countries, said KLIA will be its first presence in Malaysia and in turn, its fourth country in Southeast Asia.

“As part of the new partnership, Menzies will provide ground services at KLIA initially serving MYAirline at Terminal 2,” the company wrote in its statement.

“The entry into Malaysia complements Menzies’ existing operations in three other Southeast Asian countries including Indonesia, China-Macau and Thailand.”

Menzies Aviation’s Southeast Asia and China senior vice-president James Wong said KLIA, as the largest and busiest airport in Malaysia, will provide an excellent base for Menzies’ Malaysian operation. 

“We’re focused on accelerating growth in the region through partnerships that will contribute to this rapidly developing aviation market and offering our global standards to deliver the safest, most secure and sustainable aviation services,” Wong said.

Meanwhile, MYAirline chief operating officer Stuart Cross said the JV will help position MYAirline at the lowest cost base, aside from creating hundreds of additional jobs and opportunities. 

“This collaboration is of immense value to MYAirline as we strive to rebuild and revitalise the aviation market in Malaysia,” Cross said. 

“This strategic move will enable us to maintain affordable fares for consumers, reinforcing our commitment to providing accessible and cost-effective travel options.”

After its inaugural flight on Dec 1, 2022, MYAirline currently has nine domestic routes and two international routes.
