KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): Former Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and Internet of Things Institute (MARii) chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Madani Sahari claimed trial at the Sessions Court here on Monday (May 8) to soliciting a RM5 million bribe from an individual two years ago.
Madani, 56, is alleged to have solicited the bribe from one P Kuhan Arunasalam, in a bid to assist Kuhan to obtain training and placement of worker allocation amounting to RM24 million from MARii’s subsidiary company Syarikat A2Z Technology Sdn Bhd.
He is said to have solicited the bribe at A2Z's premises at B1-3-9 Publika, 1 Jalan Dutamas, Solaris Dutamas here between 11am and 3pm sometime in May 2021.
Prior to this, Madani was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court last month with receiving a RM5 million bribe from one Kenny Khow Chuen Wah in exchange for helping Syarikat Aspire Knowledge Sdn Bhd to obtain the letter of award for a RM12 million project.
On Monday, deputy public prosecutor (DPP) CH Law appeared for the prosecution while Wan Aizuddin Wan Mohammed and Rahmat Hazlan appeared for Madani.
Law informed judge Suzana Hussain that both the prosecution and defence agreed that the bail conditions granted by the Shah Alam Sessions Court last month — a RM300,000 bail and the surrendering of Madani’s passport — be made applicable here as well.
Wan Aizuddin concurred with what Law had said.
The DPP also informed the court that Madani will face further money laundering charges in Shah Alam and also in Kedah later this month, but the prosecution will apply for the hearing of all the cases to be done here.
Suzana hence granted the bail conditions and fixed June 6 for case management.
