KUALA LUMPUR (April 18): Cecile Jaclyn Thai, the daughter of Supermax Corp Bhd's executive chairman and major shareholder Datuk Seri Stanley Thai, has resigned from her post as non-executive director of the group, following a disagreement with the board on several matters.

According to Supermax's bourse filing on Tuesday (April 18), Cecile, 35, had expressed her disagreement on several matters discussed at the board meetings.

“Ms Cecile Jaclyn Thai expressed dissenting voice on several matters discussed at the board meetings. However, the decision was carried by majority vote," Supermax's filing read.

Supermax also said her "comments had been taken into account at the various meetings", and that the board committee and meetings "do not stifle the voice of any director".

Thai co-founded Supermax with his wife Datin Seri Cheryl Tan Bee Geok. They both control 38.376% stake in the company.

According to Supermax’ annual report, Cecile was appointed Supermax's executive director on Jan 2, 2018. She was then re-designated its non-independent, non-executive director on Feb 28, 2022. She holds only 211,258 shares in the group. 

With a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics from Northwestern University, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Chicago, she previously worked at Mercer Investments, where she provided investment consulting services to Fortune 500 corporations throughout the US.

Supermax shares gained 2.11% or two sen to close at 97 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM2.63 billion.
