KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): Clothing waste conversations are rife but what are we really doing to keep textiles out of landfills? The statistics are alarming. According to Earth.org, of the 100 billion garments produced each year, 92 million tonnes end up in landfills. To put things in perspective, this means that the equivalent of a rubbish truck full of clothes ends up on landfill sites every second. So, what are we doing to help reduce this massive waste?

For one, we can start shopping responsibly and thrifting. But the easiest way is by reimagining your closet as shown by KL’s fashionable set Bee Wong, Angie Lai-Tay, Aisha Hassan, Makisa Smeeton and Ung Yiu Lin. Re-fashion and save the world!

A star designer in his own right, Brian Khoo’s signature style is anything but understated. The Sandakan-born fashion designer rose to fame when his ‘nasi lemak’ dress for Miss Malaysia Universe 2017 Samantha Katie James made headlines. Greatly inspired by his mother to advance his creative journey, Khoo wears the dramatic whimsy design cues on his sleeves. He’s unapologetically bold, because his craft is imagined for a woman who is strong and empowered, and “She is her own boss”. And that makes Khoo the boss.
