KUALA LUMPUR (March 27): Former Klang Member of Parliament Charles Anthony Santiago has been reappointed as the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman, effective from March 20.

In a statement on Monday (March 27), SPAN said Santiago’s appointment completes the commission’s new leadership line-up for the 2023 to 2025 term. Santiago previously chaired SPAN from November 2018 to October 2020.

Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said he hopes the new leadership can aid towards achieving the objectives of the Water Sector Transformation 2040 agenda.

Based on the team’s respective fields of expertise, he believes they will continue to drive the commission to be a progressive, proactive and respected organisation in regulating water services in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.

“With water services to face more challenges in the future, SPAN, through its members, needs to act synergistically to ensure that water services can be sustained through strategic planning, strict regulation, and enforcement of the Water Services Industry Act 2006.

“At this juncture, I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to previous members of the commission who had carried out their duties with dedication,” he added.
