KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 22): Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd (Nestle Malaysia) has entered into a deal to acquire nutritional product firm Wyeth Nutrition (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for RM165 million.

Nestle Malaysia said the acquisition of the firm from Wyeth (Hong Kong) Holding Company Ltd would further expand the group's business in the nutrition category.

"This acquisition will provide Nesmal (Nestle Malaysia) with immediate access to Wyeth Malaysia's business and network, which is expected to enable Nesmal to expand its product offerings and increase market share in the nutrition segment," the group said in a bourse filing.

Wyeth Malaysia distributes premium nutritional products designed to meet the needs of young children, pregnant and lactating mothers and the elderly. The brands carried by the firm include S-26, S-26 Gold, Ascenda, Promama and Enercal Plus.

Nestle Malaysia said the acquisition was deemed a related party transaction as Société des Produits Nestlé SA, which owns a 72.61% direct equity interest in Nestle Malaysia, was also the immediate holding company of Wyeth (Hong Kong).

Nestle Malaysia's share price closed unchanged at RM135 on Wednesday (Feb 22), giving the group a market capitalisation of RM31.68 billion.
