Tengku Datuk Sri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 19): Digi.Com Bhd has appointed Tengku Datuk Sri Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz as its chairman effective immediately, succeeding Tan Sri Dr Halim Shafie.

Halim, 73, who held the post from Nov 30, 2022, has resigned “due to personal reasons”, the mobile network operator said in a bourse filing. 

Halim was previously the chairman of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Telekom Malaysia Bhd.

Digi.Com said Tengku Azmil, 52, will also serve as the company’s  non-independent and non-executive director.

He was previously the chief investment officer at Khazanah Nasional Bhd, where he had also served as deputy managing director and executive director of investments since 2011. 

He also served as the managing director and chief executive officer of Malaysia Airlines, after joining the company in August 2005 as the executive director and chief financial officer. 

Tengku Azmil has taken up multiple leadership roles at Penerbangan Malaysia Bhd and PricewaterhouseCoopers in London and Hong Kong, said Digi-Com. 

He was also previously the chairman of UEM group and Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels Sdn Bhd and has held directorships in Axiata Group Bhd, IHH Healthcare Bhd, and Malaysian Global Innovation Creativity Centre Bhd.  

Tengku Azmil, who has a first-class degree in economics from the University Cambridge, is a chartered accountant and an associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Digi.Com’s share price settled two sen higher at RM4.20 on Thursday, valuing the group at RM49.27 billion. Year-to-date, the counter has risen 8.25% from RM3.88.
