KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 6): Sime Darby Property Bhd’s two-day New Year festival, held at Elmina Central Park in the 5,000-acre City of Elmina, Shah Alam township, managed to draw over 100,000 visitors. The festival was held over the New Year weekend on Dec 31 last year and Jan 1 this year.

In a press statement, Sime Darby Property's chief operating officer of township development Appollo Leong said: “We are delighted to have hosted the public at our City of Elmina township that was meticulously designed to provide an avenue for such wholesome, family-oriented activities. The overwhelming turnout shows the ability and capacity of our townships to deliver and maintain sustainable living with a community-centric lifestyle.”

The festival featured four seasons of the year through curated themed locations such as Summer Dreams in Morocco, Autumn in Korea, Winter in Finland and Vivid Springs in the Netherlands.

Additionally, some of the activities revolved around the five pillars of nature, family leisure, culture, business and sustainability, including hot air balloon rides, free-flight bird shows, adventure and amusement rides, an exhibition of prototype future homes designed by school students as well as food trucks among others.

Besides that, Sime Darby also celebrated the finale of its Beyond 50 campaign, which commemorates the company’s five decades in the industry. Visitors were given the opportunity to experience the property developer’s journey over the past 50 years conveyed through displays and light projections.

The statement added that there was also an experiential theatre showcasing Sime Darby Property’s Concept Home 2030 initiative. The initiative aims to challenge how homes could be designed and built in the future through the Concept Home 2030 Competition.

Sime Darby had also organised a fundraising drive for communities affected by the recent floods and other natural calamities. The funds from the public as well as contributions from the company totalling RM20,000 will be channelled to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
