KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 23): Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) deputy chief executive officer (regulators) Captain Norazman Mahmud has been named the new CEO for the aviation safety regulator, a position he will begin on Jan 1, 2023.
He will take over the duties from Datuk Captain Chester Voo Chee Soon, who will step down on Dec 31, 2022, after two and a half years at CAAM's helm.
"The appointment of Captain Norazman Mahmud as the new CEO followed an extensive review conducted by the authority members of CAAM. Recommendations were made to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook on the most suitable candidate to helm the CEO position," said CAAM chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman in a statement on Friday (Dec 23).
CAAM said Norazman brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, having previously served as the director of flight operations at national carrier Malaysia Airlines Bhd prior to joining CAAM in 2020.
"His illustrious career includes flying multiple fleets of Boeing and Airbus aircraft and was the first pilot in Malaysia to be rated on the A350 aircraft. Captain Norazman is currently the deputy CEO (regulators) of CAAM and has been instrumental in the effective transformation of CAAM in the past two years," said Mohd Khairul Adib.
