KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 22): Texchem Resources Bhd has appointed former Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) chief executive officer Datuk Azman Mahmud to its board as an independent non-executive director effective Jan 1, 2023.

Azman's appointment comes as independent non-executive director Datuk Seri Nazir Ariff Mushir Ariff is set to exit Texchem's board on Dec 31 with his retirement, according to the Sushi King owner and operator's Bursa Malaysia filing on Thursday (Dec 22).

Azman, 61, served as Mida's CEO for seven years from Feb 10, 2014 until his retirement on April 1, 2021. Prior to that, he held various positions across many divisions within the government agency since 1989.

Presently, Azman also holds various board positions in several publicly listed companies, namely Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd, Privasia Technology Bhd, GDEX Bhd and Cnergenz Bhd.

Besides food, Texchem is primarily involved in dyestuffs, textile auxiliaries and chemicals.

Shares in Texchem ended Thursday down four sen or 1.79% at RM2.19, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM276.76 million.
