KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): Deloitte Malaysia has appointed its country tax leader Yee Wing Peng as country managing partner effective June 1, replacing Datuk Tan Theng Hooi who is retiring after 41 years of service.

Upon his retirement, Tan will serve as senior advisor in Deloitte Malaysia until the end of 2018.

In a statement, Deloitte Malaysia said Yee's appointment is part of a rigorous and comprehensive succession and nomination process, which was overseen by the board of directors of Deloitte Southeast Asia.

Yee started his career as an auditor in 1993 and joined Deloitte Malaysia's tax practice in 1997. He was appointed to his current post in June 2011.

Currently, he is also the Deloitte Southeast Asia business tax leader and a member of both the Deloitte Southeast Asia and Malaysia executive committees. Yee has 25 years of experience in audit and tax, advising local and multinational companies on an extensive range of tax services and business solutions.

Tan, meanwhile, has been leading Deloitte Malaysia as country managing partner since 2008 and is also a board member of Deloitte Southeast Asia. He started his career with Kassim Chan & Co (currently known as Deloitte Malaysia) in 1977.

He is currently serving as the president of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and is also a council member and chair of the audit risk management committee of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

Deloitte Malaysia is part of Deloitte Southeast Asia which comprises 340 partners and 8,800 professionals in 25 office locations. In Malaysia, the practice is represented by 51 partners and some 2,000 professionals based across eight offices.
