SINGAPORE (Nov 2): Food retail chain operator Breadtalk Group posted S$3.3 million of earnings in 3Q16, doubling from S$1.6 million a year ago on higher operating income from its bakery business.

Revenue was down marginally by 2.7% to S$157.3 million as revenue from its food atrium business fell 11.4% to S$40.6 million. This was partially offset by revenue growth from the restaurant division. Revenue from its bakery division stood flat at S$78.6 million. Cost of sales also fell 7.7% to S$68.8 million.

Operating income rose 8.7% to S$21.1 million. This was driven by a more doubling of sales in its bakery business to S$10.6 million. Operating income from its food atrium and restaurant businesses fell.

Share of results of associates saw a reversion of S$637,000 in losses in 3Q15 to earnings of S$131,000 in 3Q. At the same time, share of results of JVs went up nearly sevenfold to S$429,000.

As at end Sept, cash and cash equivalents stood at S$112.5 million.

Shares of Breadtalk closed 1 cent lower at 98 cents.
