SHARES in Hwa Tai Industries Bhd (fundamental: 0.75/3, valuation: 0.3/3) triggered our momentum algorithm for the first time. The counter closed 5.5 sen or 11.6% higher at 53 sen yesterday, with 1.94 million shares traded. This compared to its 200-day average volume of 71,047 shares.
The biscuit manufacturer reported a net profit of RM1.04 million in the fourth financial quarter ended Dec 31, 2015 (4QFY15), from a net loss of RM314,000 a year ago. Its 4QFY15 revenue rose 9.8% to RM19.27 million from RM17.55 million.
For FY15, Hwa Tai swung to a net profit of RM322,000 from a net loss of RM2.44 million in FY14, due to higher margins which resulted from an increase in revenue from domestic and international markets, and interest income earned on deposits placed with financial institutions. Its FY15 revenue rose 8.2% to RM66.34 million from RM61.33 million in FY14. At the current share price, Hwa Tai is trading at a trailing price-earnings ratio of 110.4 times and is 1.43 times its book value.
