PUTRAJAYA (Apr 16): Tan Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, the former minister of energy, green technology and water, has been named the new chairman of the Malaysia Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia), an appointment that has been effective since Apr 7.

Chin will chair GreenTech Malaysia for two years, said GreenTech Malaysia in a statement today.

Prior to this appointment, Chin had served as special advisor to GreenTech Malaysia from November 2013. Chin was also the member of Parliament for the Lambir and Miri constituencies in Sarawak between 1986 and 2013.

Chin’s appointment today was announced by his successor at the ministry, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili. Chin takes over the helm of GreenTech Malaysia from Datuk Paduka Keizrul Abdullah, who was chairman for the past four years.

Chin will provide counsel to GreenTech Malaysia on the roll out of initiatives under the organisation’s key flagships — Green Malaysia Plan, Green Procurement, Electric Mobility and Sustainable Living, all of which aim to position Malaysia as a hub for green technology, said GreenTech Malaysia.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as the chairman of GreenTech Malaysia. Over the past one and a half years, I have worked closely with the team at GreenTech Malaysia and I am confident that together, we will be able to boost the adoption of sustainable practices in our country.

“The increased acceptance of green technology by the Malaysian public will ensure that the sector continues to play a significant role in driving the nation’s socio-economic growth,” said Chin.

During his tenure at the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Chin oversaw the implementation of a range of key green policies including the National Green Technology Policy 2009 as well as the Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan 2010, noted GreenTech Malaysia.

Currently, Chin also sits on the board of IOI Group, heading the nominating and remuneration committee. He is also a member of the audit and risk management committee of the company.

GreenTech Malaysia is an organisation under the purview of KeTTHA charged with the development and promotion of green technology as a strategic engine for socio-economic growth in Malaysia.
