Diversification has been elusive for many oil and gas (O&G) companies that have ventured into adjacent sectors, such as renewable energy and technology. Uzma Bhd (KL:UZMA) is among the few that have made it work.

Green energy ventures fuel record-breaking profits

When we launched The Edge Malaysia Best Managed & Sustainable Property Awards back in 2017, property management wasn’t really on anyone’s radar. At the time, the market was fixated on flashy launches, branding and sales. Property management was seen as just operational housekeeping, not something strategic. But The Edge believed otherwise.

Note from the awards’ chief judge: Exceptional property management begins at the drawing board

Since its inception in 2017, The Edge Malaysia Best Managed & Sustainable Property Awards (BMSPA) has chased a single, compelling goal of recognising and celebrating Malaysia’s property managers and developers who excel in building, managing and maintaining real estate.

Judging criteria

In property development, the success of a building lies in more than just bricks and mortar. This rings especially true for industrial real estate, where complex technical requirements, stringent design standards and sustainability considerations come into play.

Collaboration takes flight at Axis Aerotech Centre

Gamuda Cove in Selangor is often associated with a massive pirate ship at SplashMania Waterpark that is visible from a distance. But what passersby often miss is the lush green space tucked away in the township.

Rejuvenating and conserving for generations to come

While the traditional build-to-sell model has long dominated the housing market in Malaysia, the emergence of build-to-rent (BTR) developments is slowly reshaping the relationship between residents, property managers and building owners, driven by fast-growing market demand for such products.

Upholding the DNA of ‘improving with age’

Affordable housing tends to carry a negative connotation. When developer Perdana ParkCity Sdn Bhd (ParkCity Group), launched its affordable housing project called Residensi Sofiya at Desa ParkCity in 2017, it was met with concern from residents who feared that the development would impact the property values and environment of the township.

Defying the odds

When S P Setia Bhd (KL:SPSETIA) set out to build a “green heart” for its 1,691-acre Setia Fontaines township in Kepala Batas, Penang, the goal was to create a landmark lake-and-fountain park that would draw residents outdoors and define the community’s identity.

An ecological asset for the community

Those who grew up in Kuala Lumpur during the 1980s and 1990s would remember the heyday of the Putra Place. The Mall, its popular shopping centre, featured an indoor theme park and the Yaohan department store, where families often did their weekend shopping.

The only constant is change

Along Jalan Pantai Baharu, Kuala Lumpur, stands Wisma CIMB, a glass-clad office building built in 2007 that still looks modern and well maintained. Developed by UOA Development Bhd (KL:UOADEV), it was formerly known as Wisma UOA Pantai. In 2018, CIMB Bank Bhd acquired the building, rebranded it as Wisma CIMB and is fully occupied by CIMB Bank.

Giving a two-decade-old building a smart future

For Datuk Angie Ng Wai Sam, property management is not just the responsibility of the property managers or developers. Owners, particularly those who serve on a management corporation (MC) or joint management body (JMB), also have a role to play.

A legacy built on dedication and trust

A gentleman with a serious demeanour, yet an approachable personality, Khaw Chay Tee is no stranger to the Malaysian strata management scene.

The Edge Billion Ringgit Club (BRC) Awards turns 17 this year. The trust, support and goodwill — accumulated since 2010 — have helped make our simple desire to recognise, honour and celebrate the biggest and the best of Corporate Malaysia into a tradition, perhaps more. The Edge Media Group chairman Tan Sri Tong Kooi Ong thinks we can safely call the Billion Ringgit Club an institution. I agree.

Institutionalising excellence

The Edge Billion Ringgit Club (BRC) Awards 2026 brought together Corporate Malaysia’s leaders and top-performing companies on Sept 23 for an evening of celebration and recognition.
