As the nation comes together to celebrate its 67th Hari Merdeka, Malaysians have a renewed sense of unity and kindness — deep-rooted values that continue to guide the country in its journey to becoming a more progressive, inclusive and sustainable society.

In line with this year’s theme of Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd presents Harmoni Sebuah Memori, a branded video reminding Malaysians of the power of unity and empathy, and the enduring human spirit. The video hopes to inspire Malaysians to continue fostering these essential values to build a better future for all.

Harmoni Sebuah Memori follows the story of Maryam (played by Azizah Maznan), a treasured figure thanks to her contributions to the community from her first day as a school teacher to her retirement.

Fondly known as Cikgu Yam, she is known for her genuine care, warm generosity and sincere heart which shine through during her daily routine of greeting old friends at the local morning market. “Keep the change!” she would say to the vendors. Her memory may be faltering, but her spirit of generosity remains strong.

While Cikgu Yam’s acts of kindness may seem small, their impact can be profound. Even the simplest gestures of kindness, guidance and perseverance can lead to significant changes, proving that what appears insignificant today can grow into a powerful legacy tomorrow.

Her story, especially as she deals with dementia, reminds us that true progress is built on simple acts of kindness, generosity and care. These values, passed down to her daughter, Cikgu Dahlia (played by Sharifah Amani), form the core of Maryam’s legacy, says SIRIM QAS International CEO Nur Fadhilah Muhammad.

She adds that the video is more than just a tribute but is also a reflection of the group's values.
