It was a triumph for Malaysia as Nexus International School Malaysia, an international school located in Putrajaya, has secured the prestigious award of 'International School of the Year 2023', conferred by a renowned boarding institution, the Australian Boarding Schools Association (ABSA). This victory marks a milestone in boarding excellence and distinction on a global stage since ABSA's membership is diverse, comprising both Australian and overseas boarding schools from around the world.

The school received this award in recognition for excellence in Boarding, including for its commitment to the 'Nexus Way' which is the school’s education philosophy and the unique development of an extensive English language support programme provided to its Boarders, and closely aligned to the school's commitment to inclusivity to ensure all learners needs are met.

"This award recognises our commitment to the highest standards possible to provide a safe and educational home to our Boarders. All our House Parents at Nexus Boarding are experienced and qualified professionals; trained to the highest level of Duty of Care certification from ABSA, qualified English Language teachers and registered nurses," said Sandie Fowler, Director of Boarding at Nexus.

An Inclusive and Diverse Community

Nexus boarding is dedicated to creating a secure, diverse, and inclusive environment for all learners, recognising the diverse backgrounds of its boarders. The boarding house provides supplementary support in English as an Additional Language (EAL) for international Boarders who are non-English speakers by implementing various initiatives such as a Prep reading program and Saturday English classes. EAL Boarders benefit from an extra 15 hours of personalised one-to-one reading practice each term, in addition to engaging in group speaking class activities every weekend. The positive outcomes of the Boarding program are apparent in their classrooms, conversations, and increased levels of confidence among the learners.

Furthermore, Nexus places a strong emphasis on fostering strong peer connections, promoting unity and inclusivity among their boarders through various activities such as community service, sports, weekend excursions and many other in-house activities. Gerard Ong, who secured a Perfect Score in the 2023 IBDP examinations, was a Nexus boarder and acknowledges the crucial role the boarding community played in supporting him. “The ability to work and study together with peers from the same cohort after school hours not only enhances our sense of belonging, but also helped me develop academically and socially. It's this special bond we develop at Nexus boarding that truly makes it stand out," Gerard points out.

Full Boarding and Weekly Boarding at Nexus

The Nexus Boarding house provides flexible boarding options to cater to parents' preferences, offering both Full and Weekly boarding for learners aged 10 to 18 years old. Full boarding entails learners residing at the school throughout the week, including weekends, while weekly boarding allows learners to stay on campus during the week and return home for the weekends. To enhance the overall experience, Nexus is offering complimentary bussing services exclusively for weekly boarders to and from specific Klang Valley locations, for boarders who wish to have a balance of quality time with their family and school.
