Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) is a fully residential A level college situated in the north of Selangor. It provides a relatively peaceful environment, conducive to effective study and personal development. Our students are given the opportunity to acquire the skill set and knowledge base required for success at A level - an internationally recognised and transferable gold standard in further education. Our aim is to prepare young Malaysians for degree level study at the finest of overseas and Malaysian universities. Now in its 25th year the College, its students and its staff continue to set and meet extraordinary examination results and university placement targets.
Book learning and grade acquisition alone are not enough. Our students are required to develop an enviable skill set that will prepare them for higher education and the professions of their choice. Through frequent and rigorous assessment and a holistic approach to learning through dialogue and collaboration KYUEM encourages its students to excel in communication, teamwork and leadership. Our widespread selection of clubs and societies provides an opportunity to develop and pursue interests in sport, culture, debate and politics. Students here interact with their comparably high-achieving colleagues, all of whom have met our challenging entry requirements as strong performers at SPM or IGCSE level.
Every student in our fully boarding college has a private bedroom in a villa, an apartment or a chalet. We firmly believe that privacy permits focused study and a necessary degree of independence. Our students may eat three times per day in either our Dining Hall or our Cafeteria.
KYUEM students enjoy a wide range of sports. Our Multi-Purpose Hall is equipped for badminton, squash, table tennis and weight training. Our outdoor courts are designed for basketball, netball, tennis and volleyball and our field for football, rugby and frisbee. We also have an Olympic-sized swimming pool. With spacious classrooms, a Resource Centre, Lecture Theatres, Cyber Lounge, Science Laboratories and a 1000 capacity Great Hall we aim to provide for all our students' needs. We have a Surau for the daily and Friday prayers of our Muslim students.
KYUEM teachers are highly experienced, with 81% of them having more than 10 years in the profession and 60% of our teachers have post graduate qualifications - PhDs or Masters degrees. The College's teachers are dedicated and industrious and our students benefit from a comprehensive network of pastoral support through House parents, tutors, wardens and matrons. The students can also rely on an elected Student Council and peer group tuition. All involved share a common desire for the development of the academic, cultural and social balance that so frequently leads to success in life.
After completing their Cambridge (CAIE) A level curriculum at KYUEM many of our students maintain contact with us through the KYUEM Alumni Association. Here, current students receive advice from past students about living and studying abroad.
Following our exceptional A level results, published in August 2022 (see the bar charts below), 84% of our graduating students secured unconditional offers of enrolment at a number of the World's leading universities. Most of our students heading overseas in 2022 went to UK (148), USA (16), Australia (5), Canada (2), China (2) and the Republic of Ireland (1).
We were informed in October 2022 of further A level success through our examination board's - CAIE's - Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards (OCLAs). 5 of our students were awarded "Top in the World" in Marine Science at AS level and full A level and in Mathematics and Further Mathematics at AS level. One of our students was awarded "Top in Malaysia" for AS level Biology.
Over the last 9 years in which they were awarded (2013 to 2022, excluding 2020 in which there were no awards due to grades through prediction replacing grades through examination) KYUEM students have received 76 OCLAs across a range of AS level and full A level subjects. 43 of our students received a "Top in the World" award and another 33 of them were acclaimed "Top in Malaysia".
Between January and May every year KYUEM students receive conditional offers from the finest of international universities. We have already received several hundred conditional offers from leading (Russell Group) universities for the 263 of our senior students who are targeting the UK as their destination for tertiary education. This number is increasing on a daily basis.
As was the case in 2022, again, 7 of our graduating seniors have received conditional offers from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Conditional offers are arriving from the United States and will continue to do so until mid-April. At the time of writing, we have 2 Ivy League conditional offers from Cornell University, 2 conditional offers from the University of California (UC) Berkeley, 5 conditional offers from UC Los Angeles, 7 conditional offers from UC San Diego, 1 conditional offer from UC Irvine, 1 conditional offer from Stanford University and 1 conditional offer from Johns Hopkins University.
