Given the commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, policymakers are increasingly pressured to take action on climate change. This pressing need for climate action creates a sense of urgency for Mah Sing as one of the leading property developers in Malaysia.

In line with this, our Group aims to support our value chain, including our suppliers and contractors, in their efforts to embrace ESG practices and climate disclosures. In the current fiscal year, we have signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) with Bursa Malaysia Berhad, as the early adopters of Centralised Sustainability Intelligence Platfrom, marking a significant milestone for the property and manufacturing sectors.

This collaboration is designed to accelerate the integration of ESG practices, particularly on Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) pillars. It will also serve as a repository for sustainability disclosures not only for our listed companies, but also for disclosures made by the local and international suppliers across our supply chains.

With our two business divisions - Property, with more than 50 projects across central, northern and southern regions, and Manufacturing, where we rank among the ASEAN's largest plastics manufacturers, we aspire to engage with our suppliers and have them become active participants in this initiative.

Furthermore, we are thrilled to collaborate with like-minded partners to create meaningful positive impact for the businesses, communities, and the environment, aligning with our objective of becoming an ESG oriented organisation. We recently held our inaugural Supplier Briefing, during which we engaged with our suppliers and gained insights on ESG topics from distinguished speakers, including representatives from the United Nations Global Compact Malaysia and Brunei (UNGCMYB), Bursa Malaysia, Alliance Bank and our Group CEO.

During the briefing, our suppliers were educated about ESG principles, and upon joining our network, they will receive an ESG profile and climate report to assist them in initiating their ESG efforts. Additionally, Alliance Bank has developed a winning proposition designed to provide our interested suppliers with financing and non-financing support. This package includes benefits like preferential financing and deposit rates, exclusive green solutions, as well as advisory and training resources through the bank's partnerships with green subject-matter experts and eco-friendly service providers.

Following the briefing session, we are pleased to report positive outcomes, particularly with the inclusion of one of our suppliers, Kinergy Advancement Berhad (KAB), who have demonstrated their commitment to driving innovative green technology and sustainable ventures. The significant green financing extended by Alliance Bank to KAB will play an essential role in supporting their efforts to lower their capital cost and accelerate the construction of their energy facility in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. This facility encompasses multiple renewable energy projects, including solar rooftops and the construction of a waste heat-to-energy plant.

We foresee that as time progresses, more companies will join the decarbonisation efforts and reap the benefits of this initiative. This is expected to act as a catalyst for increased collaboration across industries, fostering greater integration in our collective efforts.

Our journey towards adopting TCFD guidelines is an on-going process, and it involves the establishment of teams. To kick start this process, we initiated a Scenario Planning and Exercise Workshop, wherein we compiled a set of strategic questions. These questions were then refined to create a single overarching "Big Question" for each team, focusing on climate scenarios and decarbonisation. Our approach involves bringing together experts from both our property and manufacturing divisions, as well as selected contractors, to collectively brainstorm various critical events within our competitive and broader business environments. These events serve as the foundation for constructing comprehensive scenarios.

The future has always been uncertain, and scenario planning serves as a powerful tool that guides businesses in shaping the necessary vision for developing a spectrum if viable strategies to achieve competitive success. We are delighted to summarise these scenarios and develop a strategy that allows us to capitalize opportunities or mitigate potential threats. Our Group shares data and analyses significant business challenges, creating scenarios that depict combinations of critical events and trends.

Moving forward, Mah Sing will remain its dedication in addressing climate change and we encourage more corporate entities to join us on this path. We are actively engaged in crafting our carbon roadmap in line with our decarbonisation journey and eagerly anticipate achieving further milestones within our team.
