KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): MISC Bhd said its group CEO Datuk Yee Yang Chien, 54, will retire on Sept 30 after holding the post since 2015.

The Petronas-linked shipping firm said Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam will take over as group CEO effective Oct 1.

Rajalingam, 56, is the group chief operating officer since February this year.  

“He began his career at sea and came ashore in 1996 and has since held various positions in the MISC group, which included vice president, fleet management services of MISC in 2008 before being appointed as the president and CEO of AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd in 2016,” said MISC in a filing.

Beyond his leadership roles in the MISC group, Rajalingam also serves the global maritime industry in various capacities including as board member of Gard P&I and executive committee member of the International Association of Independent Tanker Owners, the group said.

“Captain Rajalingam is an honorary commander in the Royal Malaysian Navy, a position he has held since 2009. He was awarded the National Seafarers Icon 2017 by Malaysia Marine Department and 2018 Tanker Shipping & Trade Industry Leader Recognition,” the group added.

Shares in MISC ended eight sen or 1.1% lower at RM7.20, giving it a market capitalisation of RM32.14 billion.
