KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 13): The High Court on Tuesday (Dec 13) fixed Aug 12 to 16, 2024 as trial dates to hear a suit by former finance minister Lim Guan Eng and his son Clint Lim Way Chau against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who is better known as Papagomo.
The date was fixed for the 2021 suit during case management on Tuesday by senior assistant registrar Haslinda A Raof.
Guan Eng’s counsel Simon Murali confirmed the hearing dates when contacted by theedgemarkets.com.
Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz has taken over the case from Datuk Seri Mohd Firuz Jaffril, who was transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.
Guan Eng and his son filed the suit against Wan Azri for allegedly spreading false news about them.
The suit was filed because the blogger alleged that the father and son took RM2 million in undeclared cash into Singapore in 2020.
"A national Umno Youth leader using the name 'Papa Azri' started off this malicious lie by stating that I flew to Singapore on Feb 29, after my son was hauled up at the Singapore Airport for bringing in RM2 million cash without proper declaration," Guan Eng said in a statement in filing the suit.
Guan Eng and Way Chau are seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages, interest on awarded damages, costs, and any other order deemed fit, appropriate and reasonable by the High Court in the defamation suit.
