KUALA LUMPUR (July 29): Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) said on Friday (July 29) that an electricity supply disruption is now happening within Johor's Senai and Skudai areas.

In a Facebook post, Malaysian government-controlled utility TNB said the company needs to, in the interim, instal generator sets at several electrical substations involved on a staggered basis to ensure stable electricity supply until power supply restoration work is finalised.

“Our technical team is currently on-site to carry out electricity supply restoration work," TNB added, which listed 16 enclaves within the areas affected by the power outage.

The list includes Taman Scientex Utama, Taman Jaya Sepakat, Kampung Jaya Sepakat, Hotel Impiana, Taman Bahagia Senai, Taman Impian Senai, Taman Beringin and Taman Aman Senai, according to the company.

"We appreciate your patience, and regret the inconvenience [due to the power outage]," TNB said.

Friday's unplanned power outage followed another on Wednesday, when several areas across Peninsular Malaysia were affected by an electricity supply disruption due to a damaged equipment within the main power intake substation in Yong Peng, Johor.

In several Facebook posts on Wednesday, TNB said areas affected by the power outage included Petaling Jaya, Cheras and Bangi in the Klang Valley, besides Bayan Lepas and Seberang Jaya in Penang, and Panchor in Johor.

The company added that Bandar Indera Mahkota in Pahang was also affected.

TNB said it had at 3.02pm on Wednesday fully restored electricity supply in areas affected by the power outage since 12.39pm that day.

At the time of writing on Friday, TNB had risen 20 sen or 2.48% to RM8.26 on Bursa Malaysia, giving it a market capitalisation of about RM47.5 billion.

The company's latest-reported number of outstanding shares stood at 5.75 billion, according to a filing with the local bourse on Tuesday.
