GEORGE TOWN: The ailing Sungai Pinang will be cleaned up within the next three years in a RM5.8 million pilot project backed by the Penang government.

The river, which has progressively deteriorated over the decades, will be cleaned up by STS Solutions Sdn Bhd using the infinitesimal quantum persistent and reflection (iQPR) technology to treat and maintain the water quality at Class Two level, where recreational use with body contact is permissible.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said yesterday that about 3.6km of the river, comprising tributaries Sungai Jelutong, Sungai Mati and Sungai Parit, will undergo the treatment that employs the quantum physics theory.

“We have taken a bold step by awarding a three-year contract to Infinite Acquisitions Sdn Bhd, supported by its technical partner STS Solutions, which provides the iQTR technology,” he said. “The technology was developed by a Penangite using a green technology that incorporates natural mineral water as its base where no chemicals or microbes are added.”

Lim, who witnessed the signing ceremony between state secretary Datuk Farizan Darus and Infinite Acquisitions chief executive officer (CEO) Khalil Hassan, said the application of the technology is simple and cost effective.

“It does not require costly infrastructural changes. The technology is introduced into various points along the river to influence the change in the water body, improve water quality, eliminate foul odour and rejuvenate the ecosystem for a healthy environment,” he said.
