KUALA LUMPUR (March 24): Tasek Corp Bhd has appointed the former chief financial officer of Malayan Banking Bhd, Datuk Mohammed Che Hussein, as its new independent director.

In a filing on Bursa Malaysia today, Tasek said Mohammed is currently the chairman of Danajamin Nasional Bhd and a member of the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee sponsored by Bank Negara Malaysia.

He is also a director on the boards of Gamuda Bhd, Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd and Bank of America Malaysia Bhd and is currently a Fellow of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers.

He was previously the managing director of Aseambankers Malaysia Bhd.

Tasek's share price closed up 26 sen or 1.98% at RM13.40 today for a market capitalisation of RM1.62 billion.
