KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 13): Shares of Tanco Holdings Bhd shot up as much as 19% today following the receipt of a takeover offer from its major shareholders, at 8.12 sen a share and RM1.624 per redeemable convertible note.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia on Friday, the property developer said the major shareholders were joint offerors Datuk Seri Tan Jing Nam, Andrew Tan Jun Suan and Datuk Tan Lee Sing, who own a collective 34.1% stake in Tanco.

The trio intend to maintain Tanco's listing status on Bursa.

As at 2.30pm, Tanco's stock, which hit 9.5 sen earlier, pared some gains to trade at 9 sen, still up 1 sen or about 13%, for a market capitalisation of RM35.56 million.

It saw some 20.62 million shares traded, compared to its 200-day average volume of 817,710 shares.
