KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Hotayi Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd, a Taiwanese-owned electronic manufacturing services (EMS) company, is re-investing RM1 billion to expand its vertical integration segment at the Batu Kawan Industrial Park on mainland Penang.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said phase one of the construction would involve a 250,000 sq ft facility, which is targeted to begin operation in the first quarter of 2018.
“The development is expected to increase Hotayi’s total employment to 1,450 jobs including new high-income jobs in mechanical and technical engineering from 450 now,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony for the new plant.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Lim said the new facility at Batu Kawan incorporate eco-friendly and energy-conserving elements, in line with the state's vision of a cleaner and greener Penang.
The re-investment would also improve the eco-system in the industrial park as it would benefit the local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), he said.
Hotayi, established since 1992, has been in Penang for the past 25 years.
