KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 10): American infectious disease epidemiologist and World Health Organization (WHO) Covid-19 technical lead Maria Van Kerkhove said surveillance, reliable rapid testing, isolation and clinical care of patients remain critical to drive downwards arrow transmission.

In a tweet on Sunday (Jan 9), Kerkhove said supported quarantine of contacts, as does distance, wearing well fitted masks and ventilation are other factors to keep the coronavirus in check.

She also advised the public to avoid crowds and stay home if unwell.

Her tweet came in the wake of a strain of the coronavirus that combines the Delta and Omicron variants being discovered by a researcher in Cyprus.
