KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 3): Demand for structured warrants have been gaining traction in Malaysia, as foreign investors are attracted to the more volatile Malaysian market.

“I see more [investors being attracted] to the volatility in the Malaysian market,” said Macquarie Group Ltd head of derivatives Barnaby Matthews at the launch of Macquarie Group’s and mobile trading app Tradehero’s Warrant Hero Trading Contest today.

“Now that the (economic) situation in China has begun to stabilise, investors are turning their focus back to Malaysia on Malaysian stocks and Malaysian indices,” he said, adding that warrant markets tend to be active where the broader stock market sees greater activity.

Earlier in his speech, Bursa Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Tajuddin Atan said turnover for structured warrants reached an impressive RM4 billion in the first six months of the year.

“In the last month alone (July), an impressive RM1.63 billion was traded up to July 20,” he said.
