SHARES in Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd (fundamental: 0.2/3, valuation: 0.9/3), which triggered our momentum algorithm yesterday for the first time since 2015, was however red-flagged by the same algorithm, suggesting that investors should exercise extra caution while trading in the stock.
The counter closed 10.5 sen or 19.3% higher at 65 sen yesterday, with 202,000 shares traded, versus its 200-day average volume of only 13,553 shares.
Utusan Melayu posted a net loss of RM9.27 million in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2016 (4QFY16), compared to a net profit of RM23.42 million a year earlier, as other income dropped significantly on the absence of a gain on investment disposal, which was recorded in 4QFY15. Quarterly revenue fell 1.4% to RM66.97 million from RM67.93 million.
For the full year, its net loss more than tripled to RM69.38 million from RM20.98 million in FY15, while revenue slipped 7.4% to RM230.37 million from RM248.87 million.
