April 27 marked another achievement for the city of Shah Alam, with the official opening of its first convention centre by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor.

With its fitting tagline, “Bringing the world to Shah Alam and Shah Alam to the world”, the first convention centre in the state capital will put the city on the map as an international destination for the MICE industry.

The Shah Alam Convention Centre has been operating for eight months since its soft opening last year. Set on 2.5 acres of land, construction on this PKNS property began in 2006 and was completed in June 2009, at a total development cost of RM66 million. SACC has already hosted various local, international and corporate events such as the Selangor Hari Raya Open House, Asian Economic Summit, Selangor State Budget Dialogue, MATTA International Fair Selangor (Umrah & Muslim Travel).

The SACC offers rooms ranging from 64 sq m to 128 sq m in size for meetings and seminars, as well as the 408 sq m plenary hall and a 2,240 sq m pillarless ballroom.

The Grand Shah Alam Ballroom can accommodate up to 3,000 guests for seminars and can be separated into two ballrooms of 960 sq m and 1,280 sq m depending on the requirements of guests.

Equipped with a wide range of advanced exhibition equipment and high-standard services, SACC believes that it can meet the needs of demanding clientele. The team at SACC consists of experienced and dedicated staff who will go the extra mile to ensure all events entrusted to them are successful and memorable.

The Westside Bistro, a casual, modern restaurant, is just one of  many facilities offered by the convention centre. The bistro has a popular alfresco dining area where guests can relax and enjoy a myriad of local favourites and western cuisine to cater for all palates. Executive chef Datuk Kamarul has cooked for royalty, ministers and dignitaries. His mission is to see to it that each guest has a meal fit for a king.

SACC is strategically located among shopping malls, restaurants and internationally acclaimed and  local hotels. Some are within walking distance while others are less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

In conjunction with the grand opening of SACC, exciting activities, such as the Selangor Property Fair and the International Islamic Art Festival, have been lined up for 2010. The first event organised by the convention centre was the SACC Showcase in April featuring two of Asia’s best-known divas, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and Krisdayanti. This highly successful concert marked the first of many SACC Showcases planned for the year.
