SINGAPORE (Nov 12): SMRT Corp has opened a new $5 million Maintenance Operations Centre to help improve the train operator's response to rail emergencies.
The centre brings together 35 engineering staff from different technical disciplines in an integrated facility. This enables better coordinate responses to incidents, oversee maintenance and repair work, as well as track the health status of all trains and critical components along the rail network, says SMRT.
It also helps engineering staff deployed for field maintenance work through expert diagnostic and trouble-shooting advice, via voice, video or text messages in real-time.
The 24-hour facility, which began operations for the North-South and East-West lines in August, will be fully ready by 2017, when its capabilities will also cover the Circle Line.
Currently located at the Bishan Depot, the centre is set to move to the Kim Chuan Depot at Upper Paya Lebar by 2017. It will eventually be housed with the Operation Control Centre at Kim Chuan.
