SINGAPORE (April 26): Despite its size, Singapore has emerged the most connected Asia Pacific (APAC) country on LinkedIn with over a million registered members, and ranks third place globally after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Netherlands.

This comes with LinkedIn’s recent milestone of having reached the 500 million member mark – as announced by the professional networking platform in a press release on Thursday – representing a nearly six-fold growth in its membership base since the network launched its APAC headquarters in Singapore six years ago.

Globally, LinkedIn now represents a community of professionals with over 10 million active jobs and 9 million companies.

Singapore ranks third place as the most connected country with 152 average connections, coming in after the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Netherlands with 211 and 188 average connections respectively.

India notably remains LinkedIn’s largest market in APAC and second globally with over 42 million members – while in Southeast Asia, membership base has grown over 22 million members, up 2 million as compared to the previous quarter. This includes Indonesia, which now has more than 8 million members.

Sector-wise, staffing and recruiting proved the most connected industry on a global scale with 702 connections on average, followed by venture capital and private equity (423) and human resources (380).

The top five most connected job functions on LinkedIn are, in descending order: human resources (415), product management (324), business development (283), marketing (272) and consulting (244).

“In Asia Pacific, our members are embracing the power of professional network in a big way – no matter whether they are from developing markets like India or Indonesia or developed markets such as Australia or Singapore,” says Olivier Legrand, managing director, Asia Pacific, LinkedIn.

“This has never been more relevant in this part of the world. We are eager to see more members connect to career, business and partnership opportunities on LinkedIn.”
