SINGAPORE (May 30): SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will be launching non-stop flights between Singapore and Hiroshima in Japan from Oct 30 this year.

Marking a significant milestone for the airline, SilkAir says the addition of Hiroshima to its route network shows its continuous commitment to include exciting new destinations for customers.

“SilkAir is proud to be offering the only non-stop flights between Hiroshima and Singapore, and we are confident that we can serve the demand from both cities,” says Foo Chai Woo, Chief Executive of SilkAir.

The return flight service will run three times a week, operated with SilkAir’s fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft that features both Business and Economy class cabins.

“Hiroshima has been popular with Singaporeans, due to its historical significance, good weather and proximity to various attractions in neighbouring cities,” says Foo. “We are also hopeful that the Japanese traveling to Singapore from Hiroshima will find this route more convenient, especially for connecting to the other Southeast Asian destinations that SilkAir serves.”

With the launch of the new Hiroshima route, the combined network of Singapore Airlines and SilkAir will serve six Japanese cities.

SilkAir’s total route network will increase to 54 destinations in 16 countries.

Shares of Singapore Airlines are trading 5 Singapore cents higher at S$9.83 as at 4.24pm.
