KUALA LUMPUR (June 13): The Malikai deep-water platform will sail on a 1,400-km journey from Johor to Sabah, where it will be installed at depths of 500m at the Malikai offshore oil and gas field.
According to a joint statement today, Shell and Technip-MMHE Joint Venture (JV) said the onshore fabrication and commissioning of the tension leg platform (TLP) were completed in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
Shell and ConocoPhillips Sabah Ltd each own 35% of Malikai, while Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd holds a 30% stake. Malikai is expected to have a production of up to 60,000 barrels a day.
Shell and Technip-MMHE JV said: "This major milestone marks the sail away of Malaysia’s first TLP to the site 100km offshore Sabah. The TLP will be making a 1,400km journey from Pasir Gudang to arrive at the Malikai field, where it will be installed in water depths of 500m."
"While it is a deep-water project, after the installation has been concluded, Malikai will produce via the Kebabangan (KBB) shallow water platform, located 50km away. The TLP is designed to partially process the gross production before evacuation to KBB, where it will be further processed before being sent onshore to the Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal for storage and offloading to tankers," Shell and Technip-MMHE JV said.
