KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil claimed that PKR's strategy director Rafizi Ramli was "gunning for her" in statements he had made relating to the National Feedlot Centre (NFC) fiasco.

"He was gunning down Wanita Barisan Nasional as he is afraid of its strength," the Wanita Umno chief told the High Court here, this morning.

She was testifying in her RM100 million defamation suit against Rafizi for claiming that she had misused a federal loan meant for the NFC, a cattle raising scheme headed by her husband Datuk Mohamad Salleh Ismail and their children.

Also named in the suit is Ampang  MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is also the Wanita PKR chief.

Decked in white, a feisty Shahrizat said all statements made by Rafizi involving NFC were aimed at her.

The former Women, Family and Community Development minister also disagreed with Rafizi's lawyer Ranjit Singh that a press statement by Rafizi was directed at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar.

The two ministers had made related statements in Parliament.

She  went on to accuse Rafizi's lawyer, Ranjit Singh - who had earlier got her to agree that NFC belonged to her family - of having "mala fide" on his part in terms of the insinuation made in his questioning.

"This is so political statements can be made outside of court," she said.

Ranjit then asked Shahrizat to contain herself, before assuring the latter that he was merely doing his job as a lawyer.

Shahrizat had earlier denied any knowledge of the specific terms and conditions of the NFC loan, asserting that she was "no accountant".

The hearing continues.
