Sembcorp Industries (U96.SG) fails to build on initial gains, off 1.0% at $3.81 vs $3.90 earlier (+1.3%), suggesting conglomerate’s foray into India’s energy market not enough to drive interest, according to Dow Jones.
“We expect material earnings contribution (of $40 milllion annually) to come only in 2016, after factoring in the gestation period and funding repayment,” says CIMB, which has Outperform call with $5.58 target.
Sembcorp will pay Gayatri Energy Ventures, unit of construction group Gayatri Projects (532767.BY), $319 million for 49% stake in Thermal Powertech Corp India, which will build $2.1 billion power plant in Andhra Pradesh.
Plant expected to commence operation by end-2013. If current month low of $3.81 fails to hold, next support at $3.75, based on orderbook quotes.
