KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Zainal Izlan Zainal Abidin (pic) has been apppointed deputy chief executive of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), replacing Datuk Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin who left the commission to take on a new role as a judicial commissioner.

In a statement yesterday, the SC said Zainal Izlan, 50, joined the SC in January 2011 as executive director of Islamic capital market and was appointed managing director of development and Islamic markets in November 2016.

He is also chairman of Capital Markets Malaysia, an entity established by the SC to promote the Malaysian capital market.

Zainal Izlan has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry and began his career with Citibank before joining MIDF Amanah Asset Management Bhd. Just before joining the SC, he was chief executive officer of i-VCAP Management Sdn Bhd.
