SINGPAPORE (April 26): SBS Transit and ST Engineering’s land systems arm, ST Kinetics, have entered into a strategic partnership to collaborate on rail operations in Singapore.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Wednesday by SBS Transit’s CEO Gan Juay Kiat and ST Kinetics’ president Dr Lee Shiang Long.
Under the MOU, SBS Transit will leverage on ST Kinetics' capabilities in testing and repair, maintenance, engineering and obsolescence management to support its rail operations.
The partnership marks ST Kinetics’ entry into the rail maintenance industry.
SBS Transit and ST Kinetics will collaborate on the use of automation and robotics solutions to improve operational productivity and efficiency.
"This collaboration will help us deepen our capabilities in rail repairs and maintenance. We are always looking at new and innovative ways to further improve rail reliability and provide our commuters with a robust system," says Gan.
“We look forward to working with SBS Transit,” says Lee, “and leveraging collective capabilities to contribute to Singapore’s fast growing rail network.”
Following from the MOU, ST Kinetics and SBS Transit today also signed an electronics refurbishment contract for the trains on the North East Line as well as the Light Rail Vehicles on the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit systems.
Shares of SBS Transit closed flat at S$2.69 on Wednesday, while shares of ST Engineering closed 3 Singaporean cents higher at S$3.80.
