KUALA LUMPUR (June 12): The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia has announced the appointment of Datuk Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff as the new chairman of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation for a two-year term, effective June 15.

In a statement today, Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said Rais will replace Datuk Mathialakan Chelliah, who has held the position for two years.

Saifuddin said Rais is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in business, information technology and communications, and has co-authored a book '4IR: AI, Blockchain, Fintech - Reinventing a Nation'.

Rais, a supreme council member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, holds a doctorate in business administration from the International Islamic University Malaysia.

“I'm convinced that Rais will play a leading role in the country's digital economy,” said Saifuddin.
