KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Malaysia has appointed Soo Hoo Khoon Yean as the managing partner of the firm with effect from July 1, 2020.

This confirmed a report last Friday by theedgemarkets.com.

In a statement today, PwC Malaysia said he succeeds Sridharan Nair, who has served as managing partner for the past eight years.

It said Soo is currently the assurance leader for PwC Malaysia, a role he has played since July 2016.

It said under his leadership, the assurance practice has grown steadily and built up a portfolio of service offerings other than financial audits.

PwC added Soo has 27 years of experience in providing audit and business advisory services to a wide range of public-listed companies and financial institutions in Malaysia.

"Soo's core expertise lies in the area of assurance, IFRS implementation and transaction services work," it said.

A financial services industry specialist by training, he has led several major projects for banking and insurance clients in Malaysia and also in the region.

PwC Malaysia executive chairman Datuk Mohammad Faiz Azmi said he is looking forward to working with Soo to drive the firm's growth and enhance his presence in the market as it adapts to an increasingly dynamic business landscape.

Meanwhile, Nair said it has been a fulfilling experience leading the firm from 2012, growing its multi-disciplinary practice, building regional networks and most importantly, driving efforts to make PwC a better place to work for its people.

"I now look forward to handing the reins over to Soo and working with him to ensure a smooth leadership transition," he added.

PwC Malaysia said from July 2020, Nair will be taking on a new role as vice chairman of markets in PwC Asia Pacific, a regional collaboration of PwC firms in the Asia Pacific region, while continuing to be based in Malaysia.
