KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): Power supply at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) in Sabah has been fully restored after a temporary disruption that began at 4.45pm on Wednesday (Feb 23).
In a statement on Thursday (Feb 24), airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the power supply interruption occurred during the power supply migration works conducted by the airport's contractor and only affected certain areas of the terminal.
"Passenger processing at the terminal was able to continue as usual due to the availability of alternative electricity supply provided by several generator sets for essential operations," it said.
It added that flight operations such as landing and take-off were not affected and there were no flight delays.
MAHB acting senior general manager Kamaruzzaman Razali said the group apologises for the inconvenience caused to the airport's guests and retail partners during the power supply disruption.
"The airport technical team was immediately deployed to resolve the problem and they worked non-stop with the contractor to restore the main power supply. During this time, we had also deployed extra manpower to the affected areas to ensure the continued safety of passengers."
He said all 14 departure and 22 arrival flights operated smoothly, with the last flight taking off from KKIA at 12.40am.
MAHB shares closed down 28 sen or 4.4% to RM6.09 on Thursday, bringing it a market capitalisation of RM10.1 billion.
